Why Clean Your Jellycat Soft Toys?

We all form deep bonds with Jellycat soft toys, which can quickly become a best friend. Cleaning these plush friends is essential to maintain their cleanliness and safety, especially considering the dirt and bacteria they may collect during regular use. Regular maintenance ensures that they stay in top shape for cuddles and adventures.

Essential Tips for Cleaning Your Jellycat Soft Toys

Jellycat soft toys are beloved for their cuddly nature and charm, often becoming a most treasured companion. However, just like any frequently handled item, they can gather dirt, dust, and germs over time. Keeping your Jellycat clean is important not only for hygiene but also for ensuring it remains a safe and soft friend. Here are some helpful tips on how to care for and clean your Jellycat toys.

How to Clean Your Jellycat Soft Toy

Many Jellycat products can be washed at 30 degrees in a washing machine. Some must be surface washed by hand. We do not recommend that any of the toys be put in a tumble dryer, nor should they be ironed and should not be dry cleaned. Check out below for a more detailed instruction on how to clean your Jellies.

For Hand Washable Toys

If your Jellycat toy is only suitable for hand washing, here's how to clean it without causing any harm:

1. Prepare Lukewarm Water: Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild detergent.

2. Submerge and Agitate: Gently submerge the toy in the soapy water and lightly agitate to release dirt or grime.

3. Spot Clean with Care: Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently clean stained areas. Take care not to scrub too harshly to avoid damaging the fabric.

4. Rinse Thoroughly: After cleaning, rinse the toy with clean lukewarm water to remove any soap residue.

5. Dry Carefully: Press out excess water gently (without wringing), and reshape the toy before laying it on a clean towel to air dry.

6. Fluff the Fur: To maintain softness, use a hairdryer on the cool setting during drying to fluff the fur. This helps prevent the fur from becoming stiff.

For Machine Washable Jellycat Toys

If the care label confirms that your Jellycat is machine washable, follow these steps to safely clean it:

1. Use a Protective Bag: Place the toy inside a pillowcase or laundry bag to shield it from potential damage during the wash.

2. Select a Gentle Cycle: Wash on a delicate cycle with cold water to avoid shrinkage and preserve the toy's fabric.

3. Use a Gentle Detergent: Choose a mild, non-toxic detergent designed for delicate fabrics to ensure the best care for your toy.

4. Air Dry Only: After washing, remove the toy from the bag, gently reshape it, and allow it to air dry completely. Avoid using a tumble dryer as it can cause shrinkage or damage.

5. Fluff Up the Fur: To restore its softness, use a hairdryer on the cool setting while it dries to fluff up the fibers. This will help avoid stiff fur if the toy is air-dried naturally.

Spot Cleaning & Regular Maintenance

Spot Cleaning or Surface Wash Only Toys

Some Jellycat toys may need only light cleaning. For small stains, follow these steps:

1. Use a Damp Cloth: Dampen a cloth with a mild detergent solution and gently dab the stain until it lifts.

2. Avoid Scrubbing: Never rub the fabric vigorously, as it may cause damage. Dab the stain gently and blot with a dry cloth to absorb moisture.

3. Air Dry: Allow the toy to air dry fully before returning it to your child.

Regular Care and Maintenance

To ensure your Jellycat remains as cuddly as the day it was first brought home, follow these maintenance tips:

1. Remove Dirt Regularly: Use a soft-bristled brush or lint roller to remove loose dust and dirt.

2. Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid placing your Jellycat in direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent colour fading and fabric weakening.

3. Proper Storage: When not in use, store your toys in a clean, dry location to keep them safe from dust and dirt.

By taking care to follow these cleaning steps, you can keep your Jellycat toy in excellent condition for years to come. Proper cleaning not only maintains its appearance but also ensures your child's favorite companion remains safe, soft, and cuddly. With a little care, your Jellycat can be a cherished friend for a lifetime!
